New York: Oman warns of the danger of nuclear weapons in the Middle East
Oman has warned of the dangers posed by the threat of using nuclear weapons, noting that it significantly exacerbates regional tensions.
The warning was delivered during the first session of the Fifth Conference on the Establishment of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone and other Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East, organised by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research at the UN headquarters in New York.
A statement delivered by Khalid bin Saleh Alrabkhi, Deputy Head of Oman's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, called for practical steps towards establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
