Opening of Oman's pavilion at COP 29 Climate Change Summit in Baku
Oman’s pavilion at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) was opened in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, by Engineer Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Oman's pavilion showcased the country's commitment to sustainable energy and climate action, highlighting its roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
It featured initiatives from industry, power generation, oil and gas, and transport.
The pavilion also emphasized the efforts of the Environment Authority in climate-related conservation projects, covering everything from emissions reduction to energy transformation.
The Minister of Energy and Minerals said Oman is dedicated to global climate agreements, reaffirming its commitment to previously agreed goals and its focus on practical steps to achieve energy transition.
“Oman's approach to climate action is clear,” he said. “We believe addressing climate change should not be seen as a competition between oil and gas producers and energy transition supporters. The world needs all available energy sources, while focusing simultaneously on clean energy,” he added.
Dr Abdullah Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, described Oman’s participation in COP 29 as “effective and successful”.
He highlighted Oman’s progress in carbon reduction, renewable energy, solar projects and green hydrogen, as well as its proactive role in global climate efforts.
