12 November 2024

The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The Conference aims to minimise the risks of climate change and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

The Conference, which will continue until the end of next week, will also discuss providing the necessary financial resources for developing countries to enable them to implement national plans to adapt to the risks of global warming and climate change, to achieve sustainable development goals, and to enhance technology transfer, development and capacity building in this field.

Ibrahim Al Ajmi, Head of the Omani Negotiation Team at the Summit, said that it will discuss the national efforts of all countries and the international cooperation required to enable them to achieve the desired goals and build the capacity to achieve ambitious visions for protecting the planet from natural disasters caused by climate change.

Among these visions is Oman's 2050 Net Zero Carbon Emissions Plan, a cornerstone of the Sultanate's policies to reduce carbon emissions.

Dr Ghazi Al Rawas, a member of the Omani negotiating team, explained that Oman is working with global groups on all the amendments and articles that will be approved at Conference, since these will all support Oman's environmental plans and its strategy to achieve carbon neutrality.
