Launch of programme to enhance innovation in Oman's embassies

The Foreign Ministry has launched a programme to enhance innovation and continuous improvement in Oman's embassies around the world.

The inaugural session of the “Smart Embassies Hackathon” programme was held at the Ministry's headquarters in Muscat, under the patronage of Khalid Almuslahi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

This programme is the first of its kind within the Ministry and is part of the Ministry's efforts to develop smart embassies that rely on modern technology to improve efficiency and sustainability in delivering services.

The Hackathon aims to generate initiatives and ideas for developing models of smart embassies, using modern technological solutions such as artificial intelligence to enhance the quality of services provided to citizens abroad and improve effective communication.

The main tracks of the programme include digital transformation, cybersecurity, resource management and digital communication, focusing on smart, sustainable solutions that meet the needs of both embassies and citizens.

In his remarks to the launch event, the Administrative Undersecretary emphasised the importance of the programme in achieving a significant leap in the efficiency of diplomatic work and raising the standards of various aspects of embassy operations in line with Oman’s future vision.

“Through this Hackathon, we aim to employ modern technology as smart solutions to improve processes, making them more efficient and sustainable,” he said.

The programme will continue until mid December, with wide participation from Ministry and missions staff. Innovative ideas and projects will be presented to a committee for evaluation, with the winning projects and initiatives being approved. These projects are expected to contribute to improving the institutional performance of Omani embassies.
