Duqm Forum begins

Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences, and with the participation of officials and experts from both inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, the fifth Duqm Forum was launched at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The forum will focus on the blue economy and the investment opportunities it offers in the sectors of food security, logistics, tourism, renewable energy and the sharing of global technologies and expertise.

The forum is organised by the Al Wusta Governorate branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.

The key pillars of the blue economy, which refers to the sustainable use of oceans and water resources, include:  ports, maritime trade and shipping, tourism resort projects, marine activities, aquaculture, fisheries, exploration of offshore oil and minerals, alternative energy (especially wave and wind energy), green hydrogen projects and submarine communication cable projects.

Dr Salem bin Salim Al Junaibi, Chairman of the Board of the Al Wusta Governorate branch of OCCI and General Supervisor of the fifth Duqm Forum, said that it aims to promote economic activity and investment in line with Oman Vision 2040.

He explained that the Forum hopes to create a platform to discuss Oman's economic potential and the promising opportunities it offers in various fields by serving as a meeting point for investors and decision-makers to form diverse investment partnerships. He added that it also aims to encourage entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises to seize investment opportunities, especially in the Special Economic zone at Duqm (SEZAD).
