Minister delivers Oman's speech to 79th session of UN General Assembly

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, delivered the speech of the Sultanate of Oman to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his speech, the Minister affirmed Oman's firm commitment to supporting the United Nations Charter and promoting peace, expressing the Sultanate's appreciation for the efforts of the Secretary General of the UN in supporting the application of international law.

He added that Oman's foreign policy is based on dialogue and tolerance as the principles through which regional and international disputes can be resolved, noting that the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is the main cause of instability in the region.

He called for ending this occupation and achieving the two state solution that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also called for granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations and stopping Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

The Foreign Minister addressed current global challenges, pointing out the importance of confronting the escalation in Gaza, Lebanon and the Red Sea through peaceful means.

Sayyid Badr also stressed Oman's commitment to implementing its sustainable development strategies in accordance with Oman 2040 vision, referring to the social and economic programmes that enhance the wellbeing of society.

Addressing the issue of environmental protection, the Minister focused on Oman's commitment to its strategy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through investing in clean energy and green hydrogen, with the aim of maintaining a balance between economic development and preserving natural resources for future generations.

At the end of his speech, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation to confront global challenges and to achieve stability and peace for all.
