Oman and Korea celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations

The Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Muscat, held a celebration today at the Ministry's headquarters to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to launch a commemorative logo symbolising the depth and strength of their diplomatic ties.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea is progressing in all areas, most notably in the green hydrogen and clean energy sectors. He noted that both sides are currently working on easing visa procedures for Omanis entering Korea.

He also noted that trade between the two countries exceeded 5 billion dollars last year. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding between Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to establish a framework to enhance trade and investment.

Kiejoo Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, praised the relations between the two friendly countries, noting that Korea is Oman's third-largest trading partner.

He said that the free trade agreement between Korea and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, along with the bilateral trade and investment promotion framework signed last year, in addition to a series of previous agreements, are set to facilitate further economic and trade exchanges.

He emphasised the importance of Oman Vision 2040 in guiding joint efforts to intensify cooperation through more future-oriented partnerships in areas such as renewable energy and environmental technology.

Since the establishment in 1974 of  diplomatic relations, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea have laid the foundations for fruitful cooperation in various political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural fields, characterised by positivity and mutual respect.
