Foreign Minister takes part in extraordinary GCC ministerial meeting
Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi participated in an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, in the presence of the GCC Foreign Ministers and the Secretary General of the GCC, Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi,. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting between the GCC, Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan.
The Ministerial Council expressed its deep concern over the recent extremely dangerous military escalation in the Middle East and its negative impact on regional security and stability.
The Ministers called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfil its responsibility towards maintaining international peace and security in this extremely sensitive region.
Emphasising the firm position of the Council states regarding the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the meeting demanded an immediate ceasefire to ensure access to all humanitarian and relief aid.
The Council also called for an international conference in which all concerned parties would participate to discuss all topics related to the Palestinian issue, an end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
