The Award was presented at a ceremony honouring the 77 countries who took part in the Horticultural Expo, which has now closed.

Khaled bin Salem Al Zuhaimi, the General Commissioner of the Oman Garden at Expo 2023 Doha, said: “This recognition acknowledges Oman's commitment and unique approach in implementing the Expo's main theme ‘Green Desert, Better Environment,' which focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, technology, innovation, and modern agriculture.”

The Oman Garden was the result of a partnership between the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

It featured 1,600 trees and plants from Oman, including unique Omani species from the Oman Botanic Garden.

The Oman Garden recreated some of the Sultanate's  diverse environments, including the agricultural terraces of the Green Mountain in Al Dakhiliyah, the Dhofar monsoon environment, and the semi-arid environment.

It also allowed visitors to explore the heritage and architectural legacy of the Omani ‘Aflaj' irrigation system.

The centrepiece of the garden featured water cascading over peridotite, a rock found widely across Oman. Peridotite has great potential to make the Sultanate a leader in the field of carbon capture, thanks to its natural ability to ‘mineralise’ carbon dioxide (CO2) and lock it away – forever.

The Garden also featured a reception hall and a shop for promoting and marketing agricultural products from Oman.

The Garden used interactive QR Code technology to provide information about the plants on display and the diversity abundant in Oman's different terrains stretching from Musandam to Dhofar.

Between October 2023 and March 2024, the Oman Garden welcomed more than 264,000 visitors. Expo 2023 Doha, hosted by the sisterly state of Qatar, was the first international horticultural exhibition organised in a dry desert climate in the Middle East and North Africa region.
