Voting in municipal elections uses the latest technology.
Municipal Councils
Since 2012 Oman has a system of representation at the local council level.
The aim of the councils is to give people a say at local level on matters relating to infrastructure, health and the environment, as well as on social and economic issues.
In the last elections held in 2016, more than 730 candidates contested 202 seats on 11 municipal councils based in each of the Wilayats (provinces) of Oman.
The elections scheduled to be held in 2020 have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry acts as the voice of the private sector in Oman through elections among the private sector companies that make up its membership.
These elections are held to choose the members of its boards of directors both at a national level and at its branches throughout Oman.
