Omani-Tunisian Joint Committee meets for 16th session
The 16th session of the Omani-Tunisian Joint Committee was held at the Diplomatic Club under the chairmanship of Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi and Nabil Ammar, Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad.
At the beginning of the session, Sayyid Badr spoke about the strength of Omani-Tunisian relations and the keenness to develop them in various fields especially economic, trade, investment and tourism to bring more benefits to both countries and enhance their common interests.
For his part, Nabil Ammar said he was confident the session would be a turning point in relations between Oman and Tunisia, reflecting the aspirations of both countries to develop cooperation in multiple fields.
The Ministers signed eleven agreements, memoranda of understanding and executive programmes to enhance cooperation in the fields of transport, health, standardisation, specifications, industrial property and emergencies, crisis management and health disasters.
Further agreements were reached in the fields of diplomatic training and research, religious affairs, environmental protection, climate affairs and nature conservation, higher education, scientific research and innovation, vocational training, sports and youth and educational cooperation in tourism.
In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the session, Oman and Tunisia praised the distinguished level of relations between the two countries thanks to the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said and President Kais Saied of Tunisia.
The statement also expressed Tunisia's appreciation of the distinguished role being played by Oman to establish the foundations of security and peace in the region.
For its part, Oman praised the pioneering role played by the Republic of Tunisia under the leadership of President Saied in consolidating peace and stability at regional and international level and the President's tireless efforts to establish a just, humanitarian and solidarity-based international community.
The statement stressed the need to move forward to improve cooperation between Oman and Tunisia in all fields especially economic, commercial, investment, industry and tourism. It praised the work of both countries in signing 14 agreements, memoranda of understanding, and executive programmes that would open new horizons for both countries to achieve their hopes and aspirations.
Regarding political developments in the region, Oman and Tunisia affirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their sacrifices in the face of brutal Israeli aggression.
They stressed the importance of the international community calling for an end to the blatant aggression against Palestinian territories and the violation of international and humanitarian law. The statement called for the punishment of the perpetrators of crimes against the Palestinian people and for practical action to enable them to regain their legitimate rights.
Oman and Tunisia expressed their hopes for overcoming the crises that some Arab countries are suffering through a political solution that preserves national sovereignty, guarantees security and stability and fulfills aspirations for development and prosperity.
They stressed the importance of the principles of justice, fairness and cooperation and the adoption of dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts and differences to achieve the stability of countries and the well-being of their people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Ammar thanked Oman for its warm reception and generous hospitality and looked forward to hosting the 17th session of the Omani-Tunisian Joint Committee in the Republic of Tunisia.
The committee meetings were attended by Dr Hilal bin Abdullah Al-Sanani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia; Ambassador Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al-Marhoon, Head of the Oman Foreign Ministry's Arab Department; Azzedine el Tayse, Tunisia's Ambassador to Oman; Samir Al Mansar, Director General of Bilateral Relations with Arab Countries at the Tunisian Foreign Ministry; and other committee members from Oman and Tunisia.
