At two extraordinary ministerial sessions of the Arab League Council held in Cairo today, Arab foreign ministers agreed to restore the seat of Syria in the Arab League after more than 10 years of suspension.

Oman’s delegation to the session, specially convened to discuss developments in Syria, was headed by Mohammed Nasser Al Wahaibi, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

The sessions approved the resumed participation of Syria’s delegation and all its affiliated organisations, as of today. They stressed the need to implement the commitments agreed at the Amman meeting.

The decision issued at the emergency meeting, reiterated the need to take practical steps gradually to resolve the Syrian crisis in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, starting with the endorsement of measures to deliver humanitarian aid to areas of Syria in need.

The meeting also discussed developments in Sudan and the Palestinian cause.
