Oman and Tanzania hold Joint Committee session

The second session of the Omani -Tanzanian Joint Committee was held at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat today. The Omani side was headed by Oman's Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, and the Tanzanian side was led by Stergomena Lawrence Tax, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African cooperation.

Opening the meeting, Sayyid Badr said that the Oman – Tanzania partnership had scaled new heights after the visit to Oman by the President of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan. Cooperation in the areas of energy, tourism, fisheries and the logistic sector had gained particular impetus, he added.

The Tanzanian minister expressed delight at visiting Oman and pride over the historical relations binding the two countries. She stressed the importance of exploiting investment opportunities and following up on what was agreed upon during the Tanzanian President's visit in June 2022.

Sayyid Badr told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the holding of the second session follows up on the two recent visits made to Oman by the Presidents of Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Sayyid Badr stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of the programmes, memoranda of understanding and agreements already signed and on further bilateral agreements to be signed between the two friendly countries in the forthcoming period.

Sayyid Badr pointed out that trade exchange between Oman and Tanzania, which stands at RO 80 million, is experiencing steady growth. He expressed the hope that the volume of mutual investments will grow across various domains, opening new horizons for the private sector on both sides.

The Tanzanian Minister said that the meeting of the Omani-Tanzanian joint committee was aimed at fostering cooperation between the two friendly countries, which are bound by joint historical relations. She noted that trade and investment had witnessed steady growth since the signing of memoranda of understanding with Oman.

The meeting was attended on the Omani side by Pankaj Khimji, Adviser at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; Ambassador Khalid Al Muslahi, Head of the Minister’s Office and Saud Hilal Alshidhani, Oman's Ambassador in Dar Es Salaam. From the Tanzanian side it was attended by Stephen Byabato, Deputy Minister for Energy; Fatma Rajab, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry; Mwana Kamis, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Abdallah Abasi Kilima, Tanzania's Ambassador to Oman.
