Foreign Ministry and Energy Ministry organise joint workshop on green hydrogen economy

The Foreign Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, held a workshop on “The Economy of Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen in the Sultanate of Oman: Opportunities and Possibilities.

A number of ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of embassies accredited to Oman took part.

Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Diplomatic Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry delivered the opening speech of the seminar, in which he said: “To achieve the goals of the “Oman 2040” vision, the Sultanate of Oman has taken the initiative to prepare a road map and strategies to reduce carbon emissions. These include setting 2050 as the date for achieving zero carbon neutrality, establishing the Oman Sustainability Centre to supervise and follow up on plans and programs for carbon neutrality and developing renewable energy projects and green hydrogen as an alternative and safe source of energy.”

Sheikh Khalifa explained that through the missions and embassies accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, through its embassies abroad and through its relations with the countries of the world, the Foreign Ministry aims to attract and encourage investments especially in the fields of renewable energy and hydrogen and so strengthen bilateral and multilateral economic relations,

During the seminar, presentations were made about the efforts that the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and its partners are making in the hydrogen sector and current work paths in this sector. The presentations also explained the competitiveness of Oman in the field of green hydrogen, the bidding procedures for the first phase of offering investment sites in the sector and the localisation of the green hydrogen supply chain.

The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of Oman’s plans to be an important centre for the production of green hydrogen through the ample presence of the main ingredients for its production – solar energy, wind energy and large areas of land.
