Bilateral relations
The Sultanate of Oman was one of the first Arab countries to establish political and economic relations with Kazakhstan back in January 1992.
Over the years, Oman-Kazakhstan relations have developed dynamically, strengthening bilateral relations in the political, trade, cultural and tourism fields.
The Sultanate of Oman opened its embassy in Astana on 1 August 2006, while Kazakhstan inaugurated its embassy in Muscat on 10 October 2010.
Key objectives
The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Kazakhstan seeks to achieve a number of objectives, which include the following:
- Strengthening investment and economic and trade cooperation
- Encouraging cultural and educational cooperation
- Provision of all types of services for citizens of Oman visiting Kazakhstan and for Kazakhstani citizens wishing to travel to Oman
Consular services
The Embassy provides consular services for Omani citizens visiting Kazakhstan for tourism and business purposes. It also provides similar services for citizens of Kazakhstan traveling to Oman.
In 2019 Kazakhstan established a visa-free regime for citizens of the Sultanate of Oman for visits of up to a month and the Sultanate of Oman announced a visa-free regime for visits of up to 14 days for citizens of Kazakhstan.

Political and diplomatic cooperation
There is bilateral coordination between Oman and Kazakhstan in various international forums, particularly in the United Nations and other international organisations.
Both countries strive to find solutions to regional and international issues in a peaceful way by adopting a policy of positive neutrality.
Trade and investment
An important part of the work of the Embassy is to strengthen economic cooperation with Kazakhstan. The Embassy works to build trade and investment partnerships which are stable and reliable for both sides.
The Embassy also works to provide help and advice to Omani businesses wishing to invest and establish trade connections with Kazakhstan and for Kazakhstani businesses wishing to trade and invest in Oman.
The most important goods exported by Kazakhstan to Oman include agricultural products, meat, cattle and iron and pipe products. Exports from Oman to Kazakhstan include cables, wires and camping equipment.
Cultural, educational and scientific exchanges
Cooperation in the field of culture, education and science between Oman and Kazakhstan is both important and promising.
Through such cooperation it is possible to create projects that help exchange experiences and creative ideas. The Embassy also promotes cultural dialogue and the building of personal networks across boundaries.
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Museum of Oman and the National Museum of Kazakhstan in 2019 was the first official document in the field of culture.
In the same year the Embassy also contributed to the process of the signing of a protocol of cooperation and interaction in the field of culture between the Union of Writers of the two countries.
