Sayyid Asaad participates in Jeddah Summit for Security and Development

Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty, participated in the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development which was held today in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries; the President of the United States, Joe Biden; His Majesty King Abdallah II of Jordan; President Abdel Fattah el Sisi of Egypt and Mustafa al Kazemi, Prime Minister of Iraq.

His Highness conveyed the greetings of His Majesty to the leaders, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defence, for hosting the summit and the warm reception and hospitality. Sayyid Assad stressed the importance of such meetings within the framework of the strategic relations linking the United States with the countries of the region.

His Highness Sayyid Asaad affirmed Oman’s position in support of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, guaranteeing the rights of refugees, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and legitimacy resolutions. He renewed the call for the international community and influential countries to exert greater efforts to resume the peace process and negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides on the basis of international law.

His Highness said that the Sultanate also wished to renew its support for the establishment of a lasting peace in Yemen and as well as Oman’s support for the efforts of the United Nations and its Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg and the US Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking, to reach a political solution agreed upon by all segments of the Yemeni people. His Highness praised the adherence of all parties to the current truce, announced by the United Nations. He stressed the importance of maintaining the flow of humanitarian supplies to Yemen, calling for further efforts to lift the siege of the city of Taiz and open the crossings there, as stipulated in the UN truce.

His Highness added that the Sultanate of Oman stresses the importance of supporting all diplomatic efforts and political solutions to various issues through serious and constructive dialogue to achieve security and stability in the region and the world. He expressed the hope that the negotiations of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between Iran, the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany will lead to the conclusion of a positive agreement that enhances regional and global peace, security and stability. Sayyid Assad stressed the importance of working to build confidence among all parties in order to ensure that the agreement is sustainable in a manner that serves the interests of the countries of the region and the international community in general.

With regard to the Ukrainian crisis, His Highness underlined the need to respect the Charter of the United Nations, the principles of international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, calling for dialogue to find peaceful solutions to differences.

His Highness Sayyid Asaad stressed the great importance that Oman attaches to environmental and climate issues, adding that the Sultanate is looking forward to the COP 27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh  next November to accelerate efforts to confront the challenges facing the world. He called for a strengthening of the commitment to achieving zero carbon emissions through more investment in the field of clean and green energy. His Highness stressed the need for concerted efforts by all countries of the world to reduce carbon emissions and global warming, which has become a matter of concern to human health and the environment.

Prior to the meeting, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, received His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, their Majesties, Highnesses and Excellencies, leaders and heads of the participating delegations. A commemorative photo was taken.

It is noteworthy that the joint summit aims to confirm the historical partnership between these countries, the importance of close cooperation and common visions regarding a number of issues and situations in the region, the importance of deepening joint cooperation in various fields, and the importance of developing ways of cooperation and integration among them.
