Bilateral relations
Oman and India have a long-standing relationship characterised by solid multi-sectoral partnerships, with regular high-level visits between leaders and senior officials.
Oman is an important supplier of energy to India, and India is one of Oman's largest trading partners.
Both countries have a long-standing tradition of maritime trade, which has helped create cultural and commercial links between the two nations. They also enjoy strong defence ties, with regular joint military exercises and cooperation on maritime security.
Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the relationship between Oman and India has continued based on mutual respect and cooperation and it will continue to flourish in the future.

The Embassy aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Enhancing political and diplomatic cooperation
- Boosting security and defence cooperation
- Facilitating trade and investment between the two countries
- Promoting cultural, educational, and scientific exchanges
Political and diplomatic cooperation
Oman and India enjoy close cooperation on all aspects of common interest, with trust and mutual respect the main pillars of this cooperation. On this basis, both countries share joint support in various bilateral and multilateral forums, exchange views and coordinate and consult on regional and international issues.
Oman's Embassy in New Delhi opened in 1972, while the Indian Embassy in Muscat opened in 1973. High-level visits of senior officials at the diplomatic and official levels were exchanged and a set of bilateral agreements in various areas of cooperation were signed.
Trade and investment
Trade and investment are among the most significant areas of cooperation between Oman and India and are treated as a high priority by both sides. India is one of the largest trading partners of Oman.
The two countries have signed a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of trade and investment. A number of joint mechanisms organise cooperation in this field, including official joint working groups, committees and chambers of commerce and industry.
Cultural and educational exchanges
The peoples of the two countries have strong cultural ties and the Sultanate hosts one of the largest Indian communities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
India is an attractive destination to Omani citizens for tourism and medical treatment, while its universities are among the preferred educational institutions for Omanis studying and training in various programmes and disciplines.
