30 September 2021

The Sultanate has affirmed that the principle of spreading the culture of human rights is accorded great attention by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, who considers human beings as the very essence of the political process.

This was stated at a high-level United Nations virtual session marking the 10th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training.

The Sultanate’s speech was delivered by Idris Alkhanjari, the Sultanate’s Permanent Representative at the UN. He said that His Majesty the Sultan has pledged to spread and protect a culture of tolerance and dialogue.

“His Majesty the Sultan encourages initiatives that conform with the national plans aimed at realising a decent life that guarantees the rights of citizens, as well as residents, in the Sultanate,” said Mr Alkhanjari.

He added that the Sultanate accords importance to society’s awareness about the significance of human rights. “Education in the field of human rights plays a vital role in bringing about positive change in the life of individuals and empowers them in all respects,” he added.

Mr Alkhanjari explained that, as recorded in proceedings of  international organisations, the Sultanate has portrayed a positive image of respect for human rights, earning accolades from those organisations.

“From this podium, I would like to reiterate the Sultanate’s sincere desire to enhance human rights, which are secured by the Basic Law of the State. Oman will adapt national legislation with the essential principles of international agreements and translate this into reality on the ground,” Mr Alkhanjari stressed.
