Oman participates in UN Human Rights Council debate

26 March 2025

The Sultanate of Oman participated in the general debate on the human rights situation in Palestine and occupied lands, as part of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

Several statements were delivered during the debate, including one by Idris bin Abdul Rahman Alkhanjari, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Oman's strongest condemnation of the Israeli occupation forces violation of the ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip, and the resumption of their aggression against defenceless civilians.

He added that the continued policy of settlement expansion in Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank, constitutes a grave violation of international law and poses a serious threat to peace, as it seeks to alter the demographic reality illegally.

He called on the international community to take effective and immediate measures to halt settlement activities, strengthen international accountability mechanisms, and provide necessary protection to the Palestinian people.

The Ambassador concluded that the conflict in the Palestinian territories is one between force and justice, stating: “Force imposes a painful reality that may persist for a time, but the rights of the Palestinian people remain legitimate and inalienable. They cannot be denied or overlooked, regardless of changing circumstances. This truth will endure in the conscience of humanity and will continue to inspire the pursuit of justice and lasting peace.”
