Switzerland: Oman contributes to UN human rights reviews
Oman has contributed to the current United Nations' human rights reviews of Senegal, Saudi Arabia and China in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council that requires each member state to undergo a peer review of its human rights records every 4.5 years.
On the Republic of Senegal, Sarah Abdullah Al Balushi, First Secretary of the Omani Permanent Mission at the UN, welcomed a draft law establishing the Senegalese Human Rights Commission.
On Saudi Arabia, Deputy Permanent Representative Talal Al-Siyabi welcomed measures to protect children and the elderly and to combat human trafficking.
On China, Counsellor Talal praised the People's Republic's national human rights plan, the child development programme and the law for the protection of minors.
Oman wished Senegal, Saudi Arabia and China every success in the 45th UPR sessions taking place from January 22 to February 2.
