His Majesty inaugurates Sultan Haitham City project
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik presided over the inaugural ceremony of the “Sultan Haitham City” at Al Baraka Palace today.
When His Majesty the Sultan arrived, he was received by Dr Khalfan Al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning.
His Majesty then listened to a complete description of the futuristic “smart” city. The demonstration showcased a model of the city, which is to be built in the Wilayat of A’Seeb. The city represents a new model for setting up sustainable cities, providing for modern life and the aspirations of youth in the Sultanate.
His Majesty the Sultan then studied the facilities of “Sultan Haitham City,” viewing display panels outlining the variety of structures planned, including a wide range of residential properties located in a modern setting that reflects the country’s cultural heritage.
His Majesty was also briefed on the brand identity and messaging for Sultan Haitham City, under the theme “Treasure the Future”. The brand identity and message reflect a vision for building a dazzling city unique in the Sultanate of Oman. The logo for the city was inspired by nature, with golden touches denoting luxury and power.
His Majesty then watched a visual presentation on the masterplan for Sultan Haitham City, its residential quarters, facilities and amenities, which will include schools, hospitals and mosques.
The project, planned to cover an area of approximately 15 million square metres, lays emphasis on green spaces which will cover 2.9 million square metres. The city will house 100,000 residents in 20,000 residential units of different styles.
The plans for Sultan Haitham City feature sustainable lifestyles embracing an architectural vision to accommodate all sections of society, giving them access to social and recreational facilities to encourage a feeling of belonging.
The plan is based around 12 global standards of quality of life and welfare, ranging across affordability, advanced integrated facilities and modern lifestyles.
The briefing outlined the stages of implementation of the project, which takes the concept of urban life to a new level, offering a brighter, more prosperous future.
At the end of the inaugural ceremony, His Majesty viewed a book describing the project of Sultan Haitham City, which will serve as an icon for all “smart” cities.
The ceremony was attended by Royal family members and high-ranking officials.
