Foreign Minister meets with Vice-President of European Commission

Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, within the framework of the Joint Ministerial Council meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union being held in Muscat.

The meeting discussed Gulf-European relations and cooperation in the political and economic fields. Subjects covered included the importance of working on proposals in the joint strategy agreed between the GCC and the EU, with a focus on encouraging investment, especially with regard to green energy, as well as developing cultural exchanges.

Sayyid Badr and Josep Borrell also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, especially the escalation of violence between Palestinians and Israelis, which they are both following with concern.

Sayyid Badr stressed the necessity of finding a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of a two-state solution and the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Munther Almandhari, Head of the Foreign Ministry's Europe Department as well as a number of EU and Foreign Ministry officials.
