Oman Airports signs agreement for Karbala Airport in Iraq

Oman Airports signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Teebat Karbala Company, the investor in the Karbala International Airport project in Iraq. The agreement covers preparation, equipping and initial operation of the airport, one of the most prominent projects in Iraq’s aviation sector.

The agreement was signed for Oman by Said Al Mawaali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of Oman Airports. Hasan Rasheed Jawad, Chairman of Teebat Karbala Company, signed the agreement on behalf of Iraq.

This agreement is part of the cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq to develop the civil aviation sector and enhance airport infrastructure in line with modern international standards.

Under the agreement, Omani technical, administrative and operational staff will be present in Karbala for 15 months.

They will oversee the preparation and support of the airport’s initial operations, train all airport staff according to international standards, and ensure smooth operations in line with the highest operational benchmarks.

Karbala International Airport is the newest airport in Iraq, featuring advanced technical systems and a modern design. It is strategically located between the cities of Karbala and Najaf.

The airport is planned to accommodate 2 million passengers in its first phase, increasing to 6 million in the second, and reaching 20 million in the final phase of the project.

Oman Airports has extensive experience in airport management and operations. It currently oversees the operation of six airports in the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting its strong capability to provide the technical and administrative expertise needed to support the success of the Iraqi project.
