Oman and Iran issue joint statement

Building on the longstanding and robust relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their friendly peoples, and emphasising mutual respect between the leaders of the two countries and the solid bilateral relations founded on good neighbourliness, fraternity, and religious and cultural ties, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Sultan of Oman, paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran during the period May 28th to 29th, 2023, in response to a gracious invitation from His Excellency the esteemed President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Ebrahim Raisi.

During this visit, the leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them based on fraternity and common interests, particularly in the fields of trade, energy, investment, and culture, in a way that benefits both and enhances relations and interests for the friendly peoples.

Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the high level of bilateral relations, pointing to their increasing growth, especially following the recent visit by the Iranian president, which took place at the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman last year.

Both sides expressed their eagerness for the further expansion of relations in the future, supporting joint committees, task forces, and the exchange of visits in various fields to follow up on the development of relations.

Both sides affirmed the active role of the private sector in both countries in expanding the horizons of economic cooperation, expressing their satisfaction with the continuous growth of trade exchange and increased joint investments within these relations. They welcomed the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding in economic, trade, transport, investment, energy, and cultural fields, and directed the activation of existing agreements between the two countries and entering into any new agreements that serve their common orientations and interests.

As one of the ways to solidify relations between the two brotherly countries and establish foundations for maintaining them, the leaders of the two countries directed their governments to work towards reaching a strategic cooperation document between the countries and to sign it in various fields that enhance common cooperation and mutual benefits.

His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and confirmed the importance of continuing efforts and noble endeavours in different security, political, economic, and cultural fields to consolidate the foundations of peace and stability in the region. They welcomed the continuation of political talks and consultations between the two countries.

Both parties welcomed the consolidation of a culture of dialogue in the region to resolve outstanding issues and solidify relations between neighboring countries in a way that achieves the peace and prosperity that all peoples of the region aspire to.

His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his great appreciation for the efforts of His Majesty the Sultan for his wise approach and constructive policies on the regional and international stages to deepen positive bilateral relations and build peace and stability in the region.

His Majesty the Sultan of Oman also expressed his deep appreciation for the policy of good neighbourliness pursued by the thirteenth Iranian government and considered the convergence and cooperation between the countries of the region an important factor for consolidating regional stability and peace.

At the end of the visit, His Excellency the esteemed President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Ebrahim Raisi, expressed his appreciation and pride for this historic visit by his brother His Majesty the Sultan. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Sultan of Oman, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to his brother His Excellency the President for the warm reception and generous hospitality he and his accompanying delegation enjoyed during this visit.
