Oman takes part in preparatory meeting for Arab Summit

Oman participated in the preparatory Ministerial meeting for the 33rd Arab Summit Conference hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Sultanate’s delegation was headed by Oman's Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Abdullah bin Nasser bin Musalam Al Rahbi.

The report of the presidency of the 32nd Arab Summit in Jeddah was discussed as well items included in the summit programme related to issues of joint Arab action, most notably the Palestinian issue.

The Kingdom of Bahrain assumed the presidency of the 33rd Arab Summit from Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the Palestinian issue was at an extremely dangerous turning point.

He said the Ministers had stressed in their meeting that the summit would come out with consistent decisions that support the Arab positions and aim to achieve the demands of the Palestinian people for a Palestinian state and full membership of the United Nations. These are legitimate goals and the Arab position strives to achieve them, he said.

He said the situation in Sudan was also discussed and decisions to address the crises in the region would be taken at the summit. A number of initiatives presented by the Kingdom of Bahrain were also put forward and received consensus.

Other topics from the Economic and Social Council are on the agenda and awaiting approval.

Oman's delegation included the Sultanate's Ambassador to Bahrain, Sayyid Faisal Hareb Hamad Al Busaidi, Ambassador Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Foreign Ministry's Arab Department, Dr Ahmed bin Salem Jaaboub, Deputy Permanent Representative of Oman to the League of Arab States, and Counselor Othman Darwish Al Balushi from the Foreign Ministry.
